Life separates

Ashraf and Hatem, I remember them as my first friends of mine, We took our friendship for granted, They used to come to my house in the mornings, start nagging and beating me till I wake up, Then they wait until I eat my breakfast then I go with them to their place, we used to play cards, computer games, monopoly and many other games, Even their Mom whom I consider my second mom used to play with us, She was the nicest mom ever. I used to spend the whole morning and after noon at their place and most of the time I used to have lunch at their place as well, I go to my house to change my clothes then go out with my friends Ashraf and Hatem, we used to play football at the neighborhood, ride bicycles, fight with our peers, go explore new places. Oh yeah we were always the pioneers of our time, We discovered a couple of places which were very suitable as a playground and later we told our friends about. Hatem and Ashraf were the first faces I saw every morning and also the last faces I saw before I slept.

I remember how miserable I used to be when they stayed a whole month of the summer vacations at their Mom's city Alexandria, and that I did not have anyone to play or to stay with. I remember how happy I was when I saw the lights on in their apartment and thought that they came back, but when knocked their door I found out that it was just their father who came back alone. I remember how disappointed I was.

I remember that we wrote down our "friendship law" and the rule I remember the most is that "the one who start fighting with the other must ask the other one to forgive him". Most people laughed at this idea writing "friendship law" but many people thought it was a great idea, and most people believed that our friendship was one of the strongest and the nicest. Many people thought we were brothers, not just friends.

Time went on, and we grew up, Ashraf went to high school and had new friends we were still friends but he start getting away from us. I mean me and his brother Hatem.

Then they moved away to another place, We were so sad that we will be separated from each others, and when they moved I used to go to their house and stay there for a day or two every week. I remember how we were happy when they got their phone installed in their new place. We used to talk for hours, even playing songs that we liked in the phone and asking each others about what we thought about.

But the more we grew up and the more new friends we had the more we got away from each others, and then when we joined college we got away more, we called each others once every month and seen each others once every couple of months. But we were still friends.

Ashraf went on with his study, and I had a bad time at college, I hated it so much.

Hatem went to the United States because he wanted to study civil aviation there, We went to say good bye to him at the airport, I stayed for the night with Ashraf, and I remember that this was the maybe the last time that I stay for the night at their house.

Ashraf got so cold, maybe he just did not care anymore, I don't remember him calling me while Hatem while away.

Hatem came back, got his aviation license but unfortunately he did not get the job he planned to get. Especially after September 11th attacks.

Hatem's life was not going well at all, mine either, Ashraf's life was ok but it was not perfect.

Ashraf graduated and found a job as a typical civil engineer, Hatem was still hoping to get the job and I was still at college trying to finish my study which I considered the bane of my existence.

Ashraf did not call at all, while me and Hatem used to call each other every now and then. I used to call Ashraf in his birthday every year and I never missed a single year, while Ashraf did not call me at all.

a couple of weeks ago, I heard from my sister who is by the way a close friend to Hatem and Ashraf's Mom, that Ashraf got engaged!!! I was really astonished!!! Engaged??? Without telling me? I was quite shocked how come he didn't tell me!
