Back from my first fishing trip

I came back from my first fishing trip on the 26th of August, 2006.

It was an interesting experience but very exhausting as well!

Me and my friends met at 4.00 AM, We had breakfast then we headed for the highway checkpoint in order to meet the rest of the other people coming with us in this fishing trip. We met then prayed dawn prayer together then we headed for Sokhna, Which is the city that has the port which we are gonna start our trip from. The port is called "Wadi El Doom".

We reached there at 07:30, The boat was really nice and beautiful, It was called Hayat.

The sea was a bit high and the wind was strong, I really was worried about getting sea sickness but thank God I did not, no one else did!

Mr. Fouad got the first fish, It is called "Draka" in Arabic but I don't know the English name :(

It was a good start which made every body feel enthused, especially the first timers like me who though that there might be a chance that there will be not a single hungry fish in the sea :)

After this we went to another places, I caught my first fish

Before I went on this trip, I told my friends that I thought that it will be hard for me to kill a living creature, I told them that if I caught any fish I might release it back in the water! But when I caught this fish it was ok, I did not feel very brutal! I did feel that later on.

We went to another place in the afternoon in which we caught many garfishes. It is a quite naive fish, really easy to catch.

This is my friend Mohamed El Desoky holding one of the many garfishes that we caught.

After we had enough garfishes, We decided to move to another place, which we discovered later that it was not a wise decision. Because we did not catch much fish in the spot we moved to.

At dusk I caught a small fish, People told me to use it as live bait, I said ok how do I do that? One of my friends hooked the live fish in the eyes! Then they asked me lower to it in the water because live bait attracts bigger fish and it is more attractive to fish. 30 minutes later the fish died, it was eaten alive! That's when I felt brutal! I decided that I will never use live bait again.

At night, We had dinner and prayed then almost everybody went to sleep. For me this was the best time of the trip. I really enjoyed sleeping at the boat's deck with the stars above me and the sea all around me. The weather was just wonderful. I couldn't sleep, maybe because I was so excited or maybe because the ship was shaking and I never got used to this feeling.

I woke up in the middle of the night and found my friends fishing for squids, It was really nice, fishing for squids is nice, You use the right bate then you use some light and then the squid comes up! That simple.

The next day was nice, but it was a bit hotter, We headed for a place called "Alghashema" which is known as a good fishing spot. But we did not get much luck like the day before. I did not have much fun in the second day because I was really exhausted and needed to sleep badly.

Finally we headed back for shore and reached the port at 6.00 PM. By that time I was really tired and needed to have a shower!

We reached Cairo after dusk, But guess what! We got lost, in Cairo, Our home town!

Anyways, I reached home at 10.00 PM, I had a shower then fell asleep! I was really really tired.

First of all:
Garfish is not easy to fish, it is a strong fish.
Second:
You didn't mention the fish we ate the second day, may be because you didn't eat from it ?? :p

Well, Garfish is not easy to get out of the water, yeah they are strong ,they fight and stay alive for a quite long time. But they are easily spotted and easily lured by the bait and they don't run when they see one of them getting caught unlike some other fishes.

I didn't mention the fish we ate, I forgot :) anyways, as I heard from you, this fish was so tasty. but I did not eat from it, actually I did not eat at all, I was very tired and did not have appetit!
